Kevin Costner proposes Gulf oil spill relief plan

Actor Kevin Costner has pitched a plan to the congressional panel on Wednesday proposing that they adopt a new system for massive oil spills. Costner’s plan is $895 million and comes in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The plan Costner proposed involves 200 ships to be deployed to a spill within hours of it occurring and they would be specialized to do just this. In the Gulf disaster BP sent thousands of multipurpose ships the the scene.

Costner’s idea is to send less ships that are equipped to deal with oil spills instead of sending thousands that do not have the right training. The new barges would also be equipped to unload oil and water mix and clean it so that they do not have to return to the shore every time that needs to be done.
