Oil spill claims against BP arrive quickly

Posted on July 15th, 2010 No Comments

Claims against British Petroleum after the Gulf oil spill are coming in quicker than BP can pay. These figures were found after a consulting firm hired by Louisiana began to track BP’s claims and payments.

During the month of June, claims jumped from 30,000 to 85,000 and were coming 2.5 times quicker than BP could pay them out. The group also mentioned that BP has added 451 new claims adjusters to keep up with the influx of claims.

The average daily payout that BP is seeing is $2 million a day. This rose to $11 million a day during the middle of the month and then was back down again by the end of June. Louisiana hired this group to track the payments because they wanted to make sure that people were getting their money as soon as possible.
