Researchers fight to study the Gulf after the oil spill

Posted on September 30th, 2010 No Comments

More then half a billion dollars in research funding is up for grabs for researchers in the Gulf of Mexico and now researchers have a chance to receive funding and media exposure to research the area.

More than 100 scientists are now working in the area including 50 scientists that BP hired in order to defend themselves. The other half have been hired by the federal government, environmental groups, and attorneys that are suing BP.

Until now, the Gulf of Mexico has received little funding from the government. Two major issues are being researched in the Gulf: Where the oil has gone and its implications on the ecosystem and the federal government’s assessment of natural resources.
