A report released by BP stated that they want to stop making oil spill payments because the majority of the region has recovered from the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil explosion that left 11 workers dead.
According to officials at BP, the tourism industry is doing well again along with the fishing and shrimping industries. The document was filed with the Gulf Coast Claims Facility and stated that the business claimants are no longer at risk of suffering further financial loss from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
BP has been responsible for compensating those whose livelihood was affected by the oil spill as well as paying to clean up the disaster and pay environmental fines.
